Dear Golfers,

There have been some great days for golf this past month of October even though we have had over 500mm of rainfall throughout the month.  We have been lucky that a lot of that rain has come during the night time so we have still been able to play.  Hopefully we will stay lucky through this month and will continue to enjoy great golf weather!  The fairways had all been cored in preparation for the rains and they are getting back to normal very quickly.  The playing condition is still great but you may notice some discoloration that may last for the next week or so.  There has been low sunlight so even though the turf is healthy, the color is still a little off.  Playability is great on the fairways and the greens are especially good at the moment!

Please have a look in the Pro Shop on your next visit to the club as we have some great sales on equipment and apparel.  There are especially deep discounts on Titleist woods and Footjoy shoes.  Come take advantage of these deals while they are still available!

The club would like to thank all the members who have been posting their scores and following the handicap policy in order to promote fair play!  Most players are posting all of their scores which creates accurate handicaps.  As a reminder, member handicaps are posted on the new handicap board in the clubhouse and you can now check you handicap on line anytime through our eHandicap network by clicking on the link and typing in your name.

General Manager
Danang Golf Club
From the superintendent

Dear Golfers,

All hollow tining of fairways was successfully complete during early last month. The turf grass has recovered very quickly this time around because the depth was lowered 25mm which helped extract more sand from the core removal, allowing for a smooth finish as there were plentiful amounts of sand to rub into the holes.

Tees and green surrounds were verti-cut last in preparation for the high season which is nearly upon us. Topdressing of green surrounds (within 2 metres of the green) will help firm the turf grass and encourage the ground game a little more often.

The wet season has arrived with just under 550mm of rain falling during the month of October – luckily the Dang Golf Club site is on pure sand which handles high rainfall extremely well.

The average green speed for the month of October was 11.25 on the stimp meter.

Good golfing.

Thank You,

Dan Brown
Golf Course Superintendent.

Rule 8-2: Indicating Line of Play

  1. Other than on the Putting Green
    1. A player may have the line of play indicated to him by anyone but no one maybe positioned on or close to the line while the stroke is being made.  Any mark placed by the player or with his knowledge to indicate the line must be removed before the stroke is made.
  2. On the Putting Green
    1. When the players ball is on the putting green, the player or anyone else may, before but not during the stroke, point out a line for putting, but in doing so the Putting Green must not be touched.  A mark must not be placed anywhere to indicate the line for putting.
  3. Penalty for breach of rule:  Match Play – Loss of Hole; Stroke Play – 2 Strokes

So, as you can see from this; players or caddies may show the line for a shot but not during the stroke.  Also note in section (1.1) that a mark made to indicate the line may not be left there during the stroke.  We often see players make a mark on the turf to help them line up the shot by striking the ground behind the ball before the shot.  If that mark in the ground is still there during the stroke, this is a 2-stroke penalty.

Knowing the rules will help your game.

Good Luck and Good Golf!
