NEWSLETTER APRIL 2014 Vietnamese

Dear Golfers,

The weather is warming up here in Danang as we move into April!  The high season of golf tourism is ending and we are seeing more members playing regularly again which is great!  Our Club Championship marked the end of March and was very well attended with a full field on both days!  Thank you to all who joined the event and a very special thank you to our great sponsors who made the event a great success!  Unfortunately, no one was lucky enough to win the Mercedes Benz hole in one prize this year but many other valuable prizes were given away to tournament and lucky draw winners.  Congratulations to all who walked away with a prize as well as everyone else who joined the competition.

The official 2014 Danang Club Champions are Mr. Park Sang Ho and Mrs. Trai Holden!  The two of them played steadily over the two day competition and finished with the low gross scores.  The Championship was played over 4 member divisions, a VIP division, and an open division.  The official winners are listed below: Division A - Mr. Mai Van Minh; Division B - Mr. Dao Duy Minh; Division C - Mr. Son Byung Gi; Ladies Division - Ms. Kang Bok Soon; Open Division - Mr. Hoang Quan; Vip Division - Mr. Thai Ba Canh.

Please keep in mind that we will be coring the greens on Monday and Tuesday, April 14th and 15th.  We will close the back-9 on Monday and the front-9 on Tuesday.  Normal play will resume on the 16th though the greens will be cored and sanded.  We realize this is an inconvenience and we apologize for that, but it is a necessary maintenance practice that must be done in order to sustain the health of the turf grass.  Thank you in advance for your patience while the greens heal.  Depending on weather, we expect full recovery in 3-4 weeks, though after one week, they will be very playable again.

In March, we attended the Asian Golf Tourism Conference held at Mission Hills in Haikou, China. The conference was organized by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) which is the largest worldwide golf tourism organization. During the Gala Awards Ceremony, IAGTO unveiled its new Diamond Award certification program which recognizes outstanding golf facilities for their overall excellence in service, conditions, and guest experience. Danang Golf Club was one of four golf resorts in all of Asia Pacific to receive a Diamond Award for Excellence! We are very proud to be in the elite company of Mission Hills Shenzen, Mission Hills Haikou, and Nirwana Bali in being the only 4 golf resorts chosen for this distinct honor! Peter Walton, President of IAGTO says, "This is more than just an award. These presentations mark the beginning of an IAGTO certification program through which we will identify, recognize and highlight the best golf travel experiences that every country worldwide has to offer". We are certainly proud to be chosen as part of this elite group and will continue to strive toward maintaining and improving upon every aspect of the club in order to uphold this level of excellence.

From the superintendent

Dear Golfers,

With the Club Championships over for another year, the month of April will now be dedicated to renovating all turf surfaces, especially the greens.

The greens are in desperate need of a hollow tine, which will help relieve compaction, improve water penetration and allow air movement through the profile. Hopefully by the end of April they will have completely recovered and rolling true and fast.

As you may have noticed, selected fairways have been re-shaped back to their original width. The lighter colored turf will “green up” over the next few weeks.

The tees have already been aerated and are starting to show signs of a quick recovery.

The 53mm of rain that fell around a week ago was very warmly received. Prior to that down pour, Danang Golf Club had received only 1mm in 80 days – a long time between drinks!!

Good golfing.

Thank You,

Dan Brown
Golf Course Superintendent.

Rule 6-6:  Scoring in Stroke Play

a. After each hole the marker should check the score with the competitor and record it.  On completion of the round, the marker should sign the score card and hand it to the competitor.

b. After completion of the round, the competitor should check his score for each hole and settle any doubtful points with the Committee.  He must ensure that the marker has signed the score card, sign it himself, and return it to the Committee as soon as possible

c. No alteration may be made to a scorecard after the competitor has returned it to the Committee.

d. The competitor is responsible for the correctness of the score for each hole on his score card. If he returns a score for any hole that is lower than actually taken, he is disqualified.  If he returns a score for any hole higher than actually taken, the score returned stands.

This rule is clearly stated and doesn't seem to need any additional explanation.

Good Luck and Good Golf!
