NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2012 Vietnamese
Dear Golfers,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many golfers from around Vietnam who supported Danang Golf Club and joined in the major golfing tournaments we hosted these past few months, including the Mercedes Trophy National Final, Johnnie Walker Blue Label Series National Final, Golf and Life Magazine Championships, Danang Golf Association Tournament and the recent Heineken World Championships tournament.
Furthermore, I would also like to congratulate the many Danang Golf Club members who won or qualified through these events to travel abroad and represent not only Danang Golf Club but Vietnam golf.

Mr Vo Ngoc Huong represented Danang Golf Club recently after qualifying through the Vietnam Final stage of the Mercedes Trophy traveling to Australia to compete in the Asian Final at Sanctuary Cove Golf Club. Mr Vo Ngoc Huong won the B Division and will now move on the World Finals which will take place from 13 to 16 September in Germany. Well done to Mr Huong and best of luck in the world finals from all the Danang Golf Club team. Fellow member, Mr Ton Duc Sau also represented Danang Golf Club at the Mercedes Trophy Asian Finals in Australia recently and noted to us that his experience was amazing and a ‘once in a lifetime’ golfing trip. Although he did not progress through to the World Final he surely represented us well and we congratulate him on behalf of all Danang Golf Club members.

The Heineken World Golfers Championship qualifying was held at Danang Golf Club on the 18th of August with over 120 players joining the event. With near perfect weather conditions and the greens rolling at over 12ft on the stimp meter, the day was set to be a test of all the golfers’ talents. 35 golfers from 05 divisions qualified to Vietnam Final on September 15 in Ho Chi Minh City at Long Thanh Golf Club.

On behalf of Danang Golf Club I’d like to congratulate all participants and thank Mr David Teng of VBL for hosting such a fantastic event here at our course and we look forward to 2013 to be bigger than ever.

On the 25th of August, Danang Golf Club hosted the Olympus Pacific Minerals Golf Tournament 2012. This event attracted golfers from around Vietnam and the Philippines to join for a friendly game of golf and to raise funds for local charities in Vietnam. A great story has emerged through this event, the Seton brothers (John, Paul and David) of Olympus Pacific Minerals will embark on a Honda 67 bike ride from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh city to raise funds for women’s health in Vietnam. More information on this great cause go to: https://www.facebook.com/honda67ride Good luck guys!

In a change of pace for Danang Golf Club, we welcomed the 40 finalists of Miss Vietnam 2012 to our course. The girls gathered at our picturesque signature hole 16 at daybreak to take pictures and film for the TV coverage of the event. Ultimately the title of Miss Vietnam was awarded to Miss Dang Thu Thao of Bac Lieu province

The September Monthly medal will be held on Saturday the 22nd at 7am (Shotgun). We expect this to be a big field so please contact bookings on reservations@dananggolfclub.com to register your group or individual spot. We are also always looking for new sponsors for this event to create more excitement for our members and guests to win prizes and enjoy the day. If you or your company is looking to sponsor please contact Ms Di Na - Sales and Marketing Manager on 0905 69 39 39 or na.ngo@dananggolfcub.com

From the superintendent
Congratulations to all the winners in the Heineken and good luck to all who will be entering the Vietnam Amateur.

Course update, green speed 10.5, greens 2.5 mm, tees 5 mm, green surround 6 mm, fairways 12 mm and rough 57 mm. Rainfall for August 59 ml.

We have increased the height of cut on the fairways to 12 mm. This is to protect the grass coming into the wet season and also make it easier to play from. Fairways have been reshaped and made smaller to make the rough area bigger and to stop the balls running into the native sand.

New sand bins will be installed this month with green sand to improve the aesthetics of the tees and fairways.

Driving range tee has been extended so we have more teeing area.

New wood walk path has been installed on tee box 5.

Have a great September golfing and good luck to everyone for the monthly medal.

If you have any questions about the course or maintenance please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks and Regards,
Ali Macfadyen
Course Superintendent

Rule of the month
12-2 Lifting a Ball for Identification

The responsibility for playing the proper ball rests with the player. Each player should put an identification mark on his/her ball.

If a player believes that a ball at rest might be his/hers, but he/she cannot identify it, the player may lift the ball for identification, without penalty. The right to lift a ball for identification is in addition to the actions permitted under rule 12-1.

Before lifting the ball, the player must announce his intention to his opponent in match play or his/her marker or fellow-competitor in stroke play and mark the position of the ball. He or She may then lift the ball and identify it, provided he or she gives his/her opponent, marker or fellow- competitor an opportunity to observe the lifting and replacement. The ball must not be cleaned beyond the extent necessary for identification when lifted under rule 12-2.

PENALTY

For breach of rule 12-1

Match play – Loss of Hole

Stroke Play – Two Stokes

(Improving lie, area of intended stance or swing,
or line of play – see rule 13-2)
