Happy New Year Golfers!

Chuc Mung Nam Moi va Hanh Phuc! We hope that everyone is enjoying the Tet Holiday and that you have an opportunity to come play some golf after the family celebrations have slowed down. The greens are fast and smooth and we are eager to see all of you here! There are special offers in our Pro Shop and we have new Cobra demo clubs that you can take to the driving range to feel for yourself the performance of the new technology. These drivers are very long! Please come to play as soon as you can while the lucky Li Xi are still here for you on the tree!

Thank you,

From the superintendent

Dear Golfers,

Happy New Year to you all. I hope you enjoy your short break, whether spending it with family or with friends.

Danang Golf Club is sincerely looking forward to the New Year. After twelve months, the maintenance department has been moved into the maintenance facility. Although still not fully stocked with machinery and equipment, I have the pleasure of saying it has all been ordered and on its way.

After TET all roped areas will be removed as the decrease in playing numbers appears. The maintenance crew will be working extremely hard between now and mid April (2016 Club Championship) to improve the condition of the golf course after the highly populated peak season.

Weather reports suggest that after a wet week or so in the middle of February, sunshine and warm will be apon us, which makes for great “turf” growing conditions.

There are plans shortly to widen both the blue and white tees on the 17th hole. Already there have been a few trees removed around these two teeing grounds with wonderful results. Turf has a hard time growing in cool conditions. Add high traffic volumes on a smallish teeing area, plus no sunlight and the results aren’t particularly good. Enlarging both tees with give more scope to move wear around and preserve the turf during the high season.

Good golfing.

Dan Brown
Golf Course Superintendent.

For those of you who watch professional golf on TV may have noticed that the players who use long putters are no longer “anchoring” the putters against their bodies.

Every 4 years, the Rules of Golf are revised and as of January 1st, 2016, Rule 14-1b states that a player may not anchor the club against his body while making a stroke. There is no restriction regarding the long putters themselves, only the way in which they are used. One of the PGA Tour Professionals, Matt Kuchar, still anchors the putter against his forearm but that is permitted under the new rule. The rule states that the player may not anchor the club against the elbow or any part of the arm above the elbow, but below the elbow is allowed. There are some additional interesting points to the new rule at the USGA link below.

Chuc Mung Nam Moi and enjoy your game!
