Danang GC among top 15 new courses in world

DANANG, Vietnam — Danang Golf Club scored its first major accolade last week when the world’s most popular golf Web site revealed its ‘Top 10 New International Courses’ for 2010. Golf.com,

which receives more than 25 million page views per month, put Danang GC’s Dunes Course in the honorable mention category — a select group of five that also includes Lost Farm at Barnbougle Dunes in Australia, Baker’s Bay in the Bahamas, Haesley Golf Club in South Korea and Costa Navarino in Greece. Of the 15 international courses hailed by the renowned online golf channel, only four others are in the Asia-Pacific region: Lost Farm; Haesley GC; and The Blackstone Course at Mission Hills Haikou and The West Course at Shenzhou Peninsula (Hainan, China). “This is the kind of recognition every new golf club dreams of,” said Howie Roberts, Danang Golf Club’s general manager. “We’ve firmly believed from day one that we had the right stuff. This designation backs it up.” Opened in May, Danang GC has been quick to attract international media attention for the Dunes Course, a collection of 18 rugged, seaside holes that were designed by golf legend Greg Norman and crisscross a sand-based landscape similar to the coastal terrain of Scotland, golf’s birthplace. In its August issue, Golf World (UK) compared the Dunes Course to Pinehurst and Pine Valley — two of the most storied golf venues in the U.S. In June, Hong Kong Golfer called the layout “jaw-dropping.” For more information about Danang Golf Club, visit www.dananggolfclub.com. -ENDS-
